The Rotary Club of Karen is part of Rotary International in District 9212. It is part of a global network of 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million volunteers aimed at providing service to local and overseas communities in need of support.
The Rotary club of Karen was chartered on January 30, 2007 with the help of the DG special representative. Rtn David White who is the honorary Member. The Charter President was current DG. Jeff Bamford. The club became ten years old in January 2017.
The Rotary Club of Karen meets every Wednesday between 6.30 pm and 7.00 pm at Karen Country Club. Each meeting ends promptly at 8.00pm. The current president is Rtn. Daniel Kanyoro 2021/2022.
RC Karen in partnership with Oxford University Press Distributed books to the 47 counties reaching over 10,000 children in the Country.
Rotary Club of Karen have been in partnership with The Hub Karen and the Carrefour, that supports six charity homes in Karen with food donations on a weekly basis reaching over 4,000 needy children and families.
The Rotary club of Karen targets projects in line with the Rotary International areas of focus as well as those important to our own district and community. Our Projects are: Sabatia Children Eye clinic in Western Kenya- focusing on Maternal and Child Health Global Grant for over 3,000 beneficiaries, Kenya Cervical Cancer Global Grant in three Counties focusing on Disease Prevention and Treatment – Nakuru, Meru, Embu and Nairobi. COGRI Nyumbani Village Water Pans (Dams) to provide water to over 3,000 beneficiaries in Kitui- focusing on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Vocational Training Teams (VTT) project in Makueni to Technical exchange of Teachers from British Columbia and Teachers from Makueni to British Columbia exchange focusing on basic Education and Literacy to more than 5,000 indirect beneficiaries and 15 teachers.
Project underway is to provides access to Clean water, enhance hygiene and girl dignity services to over 1,500 children and over 2,000 indirect beneficiaries in Karen C Primary School in partnership with Rotary Club of Woodland in District 5320 ,USA and District 9212.
Our past projects are namely Nyumbani Children’s Home in Karen, Hekima Place for Girls in Kajiado, Karen Technical Training Institute for the Deaf in Karen, Nkaimurunya Public Primary School in Ongata Rongai and Wandumbi Nyeri Special School for the Deaf in Tetu. Ndori Borehole in Kisumu, Ololoitikoshi Borehole and basic education in Kajiado. We partnered with other clubs for joined activities and participated in committees accordingly.
