On Friday the 15th June 2018, the Rotary Club of Karen (RCK) hosted its eighth annual Charity Golf Day the Karen Country Club. This is a major fundraising event which supports several community development projects. RCK donated the funds raised from the 2016 event to support social enterprises that are working with schools in marginalised counties.

Schoolgirls in remote parts of the country lose one week every month as a result of lack of access to affordable and hygienic products for use during their menstruation cycle. This translates to months of lost school time, which often leads to early marriages. RCK will use funds raised from the 2018 annual Charity Golf Day to continue to support projects focused on providing:

  • Access to affordable, hygienic and environmentally friendly menstrual hygienic products and education to girls in marginalized communities in Kenya.
  • Dignity packs for both girls and boys in these communities.
  • Water and sanitation facilities to underprivileged schools and community service centres.
RCK benefited approximately 3,000 girls through funds raised from the 2016 event. In 2018, RCK successfully raised over Kes. 5 million shillings in cash and kind that will go a long way to support the communities. This would not have been possible without the support of Rotary in Kenya and beyond, the Karen community at large and the following key sponsors:
  • Allianz Kenya
  • Nissan East Africa
  • Rombus Concrete
  • South African Airlines
  • DB Schenker
  • GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals
