THE ROTARY CLUB OF KAREN, MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NDORI VILLAGE – SONDU, KISUMU, the Ndori Water Project.
The possibility of getting fresh water, made the residents of Ndori Village in Sondu , Kisumu rejoice in hope to over 6,000 beneficiaries, It was all joys and happiness on World’s Water Month, March 2018, when Eurawater Services Limited, a drilling Company in Kenya reached fresh water gushing out of over 80 Meters deep.
Rotary President, Dr. Eva Nderu led a delegation of Rotarians, family and friends of Rotary on a visit to commission the Ndori Water Project that will see over 6,000 households access fresh water.
The Ndori Water Project was constructed by Global Grant GG1748398 from Rotary International with funds from Rotary clubs of Dist.1150, Rotary clubs of Swansea Bay, Pontlanfraith, Aberdare, Bridgend, Cardiff Breakfast and Newport Uskmouth and Rotary Club of Karen Dist. 9212 as the host club.
The project includes drilling a borehole, Installation of a water tower, a water tank, solar pump, training the water users and water committees and piping the water to the user points. The total cost is US$ 42,170.00.
The community faced challenges due to lack of fresh water. Women spent 6 hours daily looking for water; they travelled over 5 km, risking their life. Children missed school due to lack of water, the school closed the boarding school section due to lack of water, the school performance was poor due to the students spending time looking for water, the seasonal well dried up and the only available water was a pond that was shared between livestock and human.
