For ease of administration, Rotary Clubs in one geographical region are clustered into Zones, then Districts.  District 9212 is one of the more than 500 Districts in the world today. It comprises clubs in Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan. The novel coronavirus (Covid 19) caught both government and privately-owned health systems by surprise. Management of the viral infection required a lot of investments and significant changes to our practices and behaviors, to minimize further spread of the virus in Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan.

Rotarians, being problem-solvers, were concerned. In District 9212, there were some consultations that les to the development of a committee that started by analyzing the situation with a view to finding immediate and long-term solutions to flattening the curve. One of these strategies was strategic partnerships with various stakeholders.

On 30th March 2020, KEPSA launched a campaign dubbed “Flowers of Hope” under its Economic Framework for COVID-19 response. The campaign will be implemented through KEPSA members as follows: Kenya Flower Council (KFC), Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Elgon Kenya, Kenya Airways and Jambojet with volunteer partners from Rotary Kenya and Women of Kenya Initiative.  “It is on the basis of the need to support our front line of defense and encourage them while also protecting over 4 million livelihoods that this campaign was born.” KEPSA’S CEO Carole Karuga added.

Rotary Club of Karen joined the campaign by distributing Flowers of hope to the hospitals within their community. These included; Karen Hospital, Nairobi Hospital Clinic at Galleria, AAR Clinic at Galleria, St. Odelilius Clinic on Windy Ridge, St. Camillian Clinic, Karen city council clinic.
